“Bombshells” End Cruise Of Happiness
Completing an eventful and entertaining voyage, H.M.S. Happiness berthed safely last evening. The cruise commenced on Tuesday evening when the crew, supplied by the Bombshells Revue Company, set sail on a voyage calculated to bring joy and happiness to Whangarei district patrons .and at the same time raise funds towards the £1,000,000 Fatriotic All-Purposes Appeal. ~ The aim succeeded and on each of the three . “Navy Knights” in the Whangarei Town Hall, large audiences were well pleased with the presentation. No Dull Moments Last evening’s . performance went with a swing and occasional departures from the original script added to the enjoyment of the audience, which included many who had been present when sail was set. Again there was not a dull moment in the excellent singing, dancing and novelty turns and each item was received with enthusiasm. The presentation, following a long period of rehearsal, merited even greater support than it received, for there was no doubt that the effort made was productive of first-class entertainment. . . : .
Tribute to Ballet
At the conclusion of the final performance, members of the cast were showered with bouquets and presents, tribute to the excellent work which had been so successfully carried out. Thanking members of the cast for their efforts, the chairman of the entertainment sub-committee of the Whangarei Patriotic Committee (Mr F. J. Howie) made particular mention of the ballet which, he said, in presenting 26 dance routines in the "two presentations made by the company, had proved worthy of ranking with the best in the Dominion. Big Pantomime Planned
He also paid .tribute to the producer (Mr F. Argyle) for the successful outcome of his work, which had imposed great strain on him and had affected his. health.
The company intended to stage a pantomime with a cast of 160 before Christmas, said Mr HOwie.
To avoid the payment of royalty which would be necessary if any of the pantomimes already produced were used, Mr Argyle had written an original pantomime with the assistance of Mrs R. Lynch, who had given unlimited time in the preparatory work. Mr Howie appealed for any who could assist to offer their services to enable the pantomime to be presented on a greater scale than any production hitherto offered in Whangarei.
