Niagara Boat For Proposed Sea Scout Troop
A decision to support and co-oper-ate in the suggested formation of a Sea Scout troop in Whangarei was reached last evening at a meeting of the Whangarei Cruising Club. The scheme was outlined by the Scout Commissioner for Northland (Mr F. G. Coleman), who stated that an offer had been received of one of the lifeboats that had come ashore and been saved from the Niagara wreck and this could be secured at a moderate price. Such ,a craft would be of great assistance in the training of the boys for the proposed troop.
Mr Coleman asked the commodore of the club (Mr A. MacKenzie) if he could recommend some members of the club who could act as officers of the proposed troop. Mr MacKenzie assured Mr Coleman that officers could be secured from among club members. To further the scheme, .a public meeting is to be called, when it is hoped that the troop will be formed. Anyone interested in the formation of the troop, either adult or boy, is asked to communicate with either Mr Coleman or Mr MacKenzie.
Freighter Sunk.—The freighter Empire Wind has been bombed and sunk in the Atlantic. The crew was saved.
