Kaitaia
Seldom Come Back Mr W. H. Poff, whose people are in business in New Plymouth, has returned to Kaitaia after an absence of over two years. Usually people who leave Kaitaia only come back on visits, but there are exceptions. If it were not for the isolation, the position would be very different, but the objections on this account are losing much force as time goes on and, with the coming of electricity, the town will get a big lift forward. Farm Sold Mr J. C. Marsh has sold his farm property in Church Road to Mr P. S. Johnson. Mr Marsh, who is taking up his residence in Cable Bay, has had great difficulty in obtaining suitable labour, and the conditions became such that it was almost impossible to work his farm. Honorarium Increased The Mangonui County Council at its annual meeting increased the chairman’s honorarium from £75 to £IOO. Sick and Wounded Fund What appears to be an excellent scheme, ana one that should prove successful, has been devised by the Kaitaia Red Cross Society for the purpose of raising money for the Sick and Wounded Fund. A circular has been issued to all business people containing th,e suggestion that each senior member of the staff shall contribute 1/- -weekly/ and'each”Junior member 6d weekly. Miss Gillanders, of Messrs Nobles, Ltd., has been appointed to receive the weekly amounts.
