Maori Padre Wanted

Mr Sam Maioha has sent the following letter to the Minister for Defence:

“On behalf of the North Auckland Maoris, I desire to draw your attention to the unanimous wish that a Maori padre be appointed to the Fapakura Camp, and that all Maori soldiers remain strictly as reinforcemens to their battalion, who have already left these shores, and no absorption into any other unit be permitted. I have just returned from a months's Maori historical research work in the Northland area, and consequently, I had abundant opportunities of discussing war matters with the tribal elders. Therefore, in accordance with their wishes I am writing this letter. Trusting that you will give this matter urgent, careful and favourable consideration."
