“It Has Started!”
The Belgian Prime Minister (M. Pierlot) and other members of the 'Cabinet went to see King Leopold, who assumed supreme command of the armed forces. The Netherlands Legation in London issued the statement: “We are now the Allies of Britain and France. The Dutch Governmont Press agency announced that Holland was at war with Germany. The First Sea Lord (Sir Dudley Pound), before entering the British War Cabinet meeting at No. 10 Downing Street at 8 a.m., said: “Well! It lias started at last.” The airport at Lyons in South-Eastern France, was bombed by German aeroplanes in the early hours of the morning. } All leave in the French armed services has been stopped.
