Urges Simplified Baptism Service
LONDON, May 2. A report issued by a committee of the Convocation of Canterbury seriously criticises “the current misuse” of the sacrament of Holy Baptism and the laxity of administration. It recommends a shortened and simplified service for the public baptism of infants. “The effect of misuse,” says the report, “is that the majority of parents bring children to the font with little understanding of the significance of the act, and often from most inadequate motives.”
