Evans Of The Broke’s Norwegian Wife
Admiral Sir E. R. Evans (“Evans of the Broke”) has been appointed naval attache to Norway. His wife, Lady Evans, is a Norwegian. “I am sure Norway will put up a good fight,” she said recently. Her two brothers, Major Ricco Andvord and Mr Trygves Andvord, live in Oslo. On the Verandah of her family home in Norway are two aboriginal images presented to Admiral Evans when he toured the Northern Territory during his term in command of the Royal Australian Navy 10 years ago. Lady Evans wept as she said: “For months I have been sickened at heart as I have watched one small, defenceless Norwegian vessel after another torpedoed, machine-gunned and bombed by the Nazis and heard of Norwegian seamen murdered. “I am very sorry for my Norwegian friends in England, all of whom when war broke out last September sent their children to ‘safety’ in Norway. “Now we are completely cut off."
