Why Scarves And Mittens? Mr. Parkin Asks
Northland’s quota of the 4634 scarves and pairs of mittens required for troops overseas amounts to 556 scarves and 556 pairs of mittens. This advice was received from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council by the Northland Zone A Committee last night. “It is time we should know why we are supplying these things,” said Mr J'. Parkin. Airmen would certainly require scarves and mittens, but he doubted it the troops in Egypt would. The chairman (Mr W. Jones) said the committee could only believe that the officers responsible for requesting the scarves and mittens knew what they were asking for. The zone accepted its quota.
