League Of Mothers

The April meeting of the League of Mothers was a very interesting one. There was a good attendance, presided over by the president, Mrs J. A. Inkster. The company stood as a jnark of respect for the loss of Mrs Cleaver, one of their most valued members. Miss Gladys McMillan was the soloist. She was well received, and the accompanist for the afternoon was Mrs Ron Masters. The thought for the month was supplied by Mrs R. J. Dunn and read by Mrs McDell. Miss A. Cookson gave a most interesting and instructive lecture on nursing, with special reference to the home nursing which mothers are called upon to undertake. The care of the influenza patient was dealt with, and special stress giyen to the need for isolation, and disinfection of utensils used by the patient. There was also the need for washing the hands after contact with' the patient, and the burning ,of paper handkerchiefs, the use of which was• strongly advocated. Miss Cookson expressed the opinion that mothers were the best nurses for their children, because they understood best their characters and individualities. Miss Cookson was given enthusiastic applause after her lecture, and a vote of thanks to her, ‘to. the soloist and the hostesses was carried with acclamation. Flowers were sent from the meeting to several sick members. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames L. J. Brake, L. S. Maxwell, A. McDell, E. Timewell, R. Tudehope, Woolf or d and Wallace.
