Northland’s Quota Of Comforts For Soldiers

Northland women in future will be knitting woollen gloves instead of socks for soldiers, as they have been in the past. The gloves are destined for New Zealanders in the Air Force. At the meeting of the Northland Zone A Patriotic Executive last night, the secretary (Mr L. O. Hall) reported that the National Patriotic Fund Board had introduced a replacement scheme in these terms. The quota fixed for the zone was 200 pairs of gloves, which had now been allocated to the seven inter-zones of Northland. The executive confirmed the secretary’s action in allocating quotas to the seven inter-zones, and accepted the zone's quota of 200 pairs of gloves. Standard Gift Parcels. Mr Hall also reported that the National Fatriotic Fund Board had. through the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council, called for the provision of 2345 standard gift parcels. The zone allocation was 200 parcels. The quota had been well subscribed, the following uniform gift parcels having been despatched:— Hokianga inter-zone, 31 parcels. Mangonui inter-zone, 28. Whangaroa inter-zone, 0. I Bay of Islands inter.zone, 37. Whangarei inter-zone. 80. I Hobson inter-zone, 30. Otamatea inter-zone, 20. Total, 226. The secretary’s report was received, and the zone's allocation approved. Inter-zones were congratulated on the results and. although it was noted that no parcels were despatched from Whangaroa, the allocation was small, and arrangements had been made with the Whangarei inter-zone to make up both quotas. Balaclavas Wanted Urgently. The zone also accepted a quota of 476 balaclavas. Auckland Provincial Headquarters had received an urgent request, for supplies of these to be sent to Zone H.Q. for despatch to Wellington. Hobson inter-zone had sent two batches each of 45, and Whangarei inter-zone had sent two batches, one of 54, and the other of 58. Northland's zone contributions acknowledged were thus 202. Northland Zone had also been asked to supply 556 "hussifs" immediately, and then 53 each succeeding month. This quota was agreed to by the executive, and the secretary was asked to distribute supplies of material in accordance with the quota fixed for the making of gloves. All completed parcels of socks are to be forwarded to Headquarters as soon as possible.
