Australian Miners Discuss Ultimatum

(Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Officials and representatives of the combined mining unions met yesterday and discussed the Prime Minister’s ultimatum to the coalminers, whose strike is now in the seventh week. No decision was reached. The conference is being resumed today, when a report will be presented by the committee of the conference on the policy to be pursued.

Savings.—The Canadian Government announces from Ottawa that all civil servants employed since the war began are subject to compulsory savings of 5 per cent, of their salaries, returnable when peace is restored, with the object of cushioning post.war readjustments.
