Very Small Fire Loss Last Year
1 Chairman of the Hikurangi Fire Board since its inception 11 years ago, Mrs R. Nesbitt was re-elected at the annual meeting on Tuesday night. The resignation of the secretary (Mr C. E. O'Callaghan) who has also held office since fire brigade work first started in Hikurangi 11 years ago, was received with great regret. The chairman expressed appreciation of the capable and efficient manner in which Mr O’Callaghan had carried out his duties and these remarks were endorsed by other members. Mr O’Callaghan replied. Mr W. Thomas was elected secretary. Provision was made for reconstruction of the fire engine to bring it up to requirements and full efficiency. This resulted in a slight increase in the estimated expenditure for the forthcoming year. Superintendent Doel reported that the brigade, which has a membership of 15, was working amicably and satisfactorily. The fire loss for the past 12 months was very small.
