Two Men For Trial On Serious Charge

Charged with committing rape, two men appeared at the Whang,arei Court this morning. After the evidence for the prosecution had been heard, they pleaded not guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The men are Kenneth Nicholson, tiler, of Auckland, and Owen Cyril Wilkie, labourer, also of Auckland. Mr A. E. Wright .appeared for both. Bail was granted by Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., in self £3OO and one surety of £3OO, or two of £l5O, in the case of both. Evidence was given by the complainant of the alleged happenings, which were said to have taken place in a motor car parked on the stock route, near the Western Hills, in Whangarei, at about 4.30 in the morning. Detective J. B. Finlay gave evidence of the arrest of both men. Medical evidence was also given.
