Mae Kay) to Mr. Fraser. * * * * Diphtheria, Cases. During the month a diphtheria epidemic broke out at Cnerahi, staled the engineer to the Whangarei County Council today. While playing yesterday afternoon at the lime works at Waikiekic, where her father is employed, Rosie Wanga, five, fell on. a tin, inflicting a severe wound just above the eyes. A protest against the taking of shingle by an Auckland scow from the Helena pay beach has been made by the Whangarei County Council to the Marino Department. Speaking of the annual camp of the North Auckland Motorised Regiment, that will be held in Kensington Park. Whangarei, commencing next week, Captain Conyers-Brown, Area Officer at Whangarei, said that it might not be generally known that this regiment was affiliated to the famous Scots Greys in the Imperial Army. He also said that, so far as he knew, when the regiment paraded on Anzac Day at Whangarei, this would be the first occasion that the regiment had, as a complete unit, taken part in such a parade. * * * «* Will Not Be “Pheasant Club.” So long as the president (Mr. S. J. Snow) continues to hold office in the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society he will use every endeavour to further its work as a whole and prevent its degeneration into a pheasant club. "It has been brought to my notice that some disgruntled gentlemen are usingstreet corners and similar locations to disparage any activity of the society other than spending its revenue on pheasants, Mr. Snow states in his report for presentation to the annual meeting. I venture the opinion that the one thing that exercises the mind of such men is to ascertain how many pheasants will be available for them to shoot and that the work and aims of acclimatisation societies in general does not interest them. To these people I extend a cordial invitation to the annual meeting, and can assure them of a fair and impartial hearing of their complaints.
