Africa and Coastguards On Regent Programme British attempts to introduce the old school tie to the jungle, form the theme of “Old Bones of the River,” a delightful satirical comedy which opened at the Regent Theatre last flight. Produced in England and based on the “Sanders" series, which first made Edgar Wallace famous, the picture presents Will Hay in the feature role of Professor Benjamin Tibbits. whose mission to bring learning to the pagans, is broadened when the tax collectors fall sick. His attempts to educate the little nigger boys and to prevent the rebellious tribes, inflamed by illicit gin, from boiling over, make a chain of highly diverting, amusing an*d, at times, dramaitc incidents. The manifold duties which the guardians of shipping are called upon to undertake are presented in the second film, “Coastguard,” the action of which moves from the American coast at the height of a storm, to inland flood relief, and then to the wastes of the Arctic. Of particular interest to Northlanders is a short excerpt dealing with the Waimate North pageant.
