North’s Opportunities For Greater Output
“If markets for our primary products are available in the United Kingdom .and elsewhere, Northland has splendid possibilities for expanding production under ideal conditions.” Saying this in an interview at Whangarei, the Minister for Finance (Mt Nash) stated himself greatly impressed by what he had seen on his Northern tour. From Waitangi, accompanied by Messrs Barclay and Boswell, Mr Nash visited Kerikeri, Mangonui, Cable Bay Station, Kaitaia. Kohukohu and Dargaville. Already Northland supplied 23 per cent, of butterfat exported through the port, of Auckland and one-sixth of the Dominion’s production, Mr Nash said. One of the most pleasing experiences of the tour, after passing through a section of barren land after leaving Mangonui. was to see the magnificent sweep of fertilp plains stretching from Pukepoto to Waipapakauri.
