Miners Issue Demand For Conference
(Received 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The coalmining unions have come out into the open and disclosed that they are making preparations for a strike or lockout throughout the Commonwealth, and intend to sound other unions concerning financial assistance. The combined committee of the Mining Union has sent a demand to colliery proprietors for a conference before the end of the month to negotiate a new agreement. in. an official statement, the committee declared that "failing a satisfactory agreement, the unions will be compelled to take direct and immediate action to enforce their demands."
