Northland’s Contribution To Third Echelon
Northland already has 70 fit men available for the Third Echelon of the Second Expeditionary Force. One hundred and fifty recruits are ready to go before the medical boards for examination. Included in this total are 57 enlistments received at the Whangarei Army Office, headquarters for the Northland area, last week. Although last week’s enlistments were not up to the figure set during immediately preceding weeks, they were considerably better than during the period before Christmas. Additional enlistments. Additonal enlistments received at the Whangarei Army Office, but not previously listed, were:— Whangarei.—S. P. Ski'lton (Kamo), M. Dempster, G. E. Potter (Waipu). Kaikohe.—L. R. Herbert (Kaeo), L. N. Towers, F. J. G. Mackereth (Okaihau), R. W. Morris, F. Holmes (Purerua), I. V. T. Whitehead (Kaeo). Dargaville.—M. B. Kirton. Kailaia. —A. W. Ford (Awanuf). Wellsi'ord. L. J. Lawrence (Paparoa).
Recruits by Mail,
Improvement was shown in the number of enlistments received by mail at Northland headquarters this morning, 10 coming forward for the weekend. Recruits were:—
Whangarei.—L. J. Kirk (Kokopu), J. McKenzie (Pakotai), T. G. Sadler (Maungaturoto), H. B. Wallace (Maungaturoto). Kaikohe.—R. De B. Tregerthan (Puketona), B. Noble (Mangamuka), T. H, Whittaker (Waimate North), C. E. Andrews (Rangiahua), R. J. Smith (Opua). Kaitaia.— D. Wallace. 10 More Recruits Today
The improvement in Northland recruiting figures was supplemented today when enlistments received at the Whangarei Army Office amounted to 10, the best single day total for more than a week.
Today’s recruits were: Whangarei: G. O. Prescott (Onerahi) W. T. Hutchinson, R. D. Munn.
Dargaville: M. Goddison (Kirikopuni), J. Pullen (Kairara). I. J. Thompson (Naumai), A. Jones (Tangaihi). J. Manning, R. B. Donaldson . (Kirikopuni), E. T. N. Cartwright (Matakohe). Lieutenant E. V. Fry, of Whangarei, left Whangarei today to join the Second Echelon of the Second Expeditionary Force.
Lieut. Fry will be attached to the Divisional Signals at Trentham.
