£1,480,691 Rise In Sterling Exchange

The Reserve Bank return for the week ended Monday, January 22, was issued yesterday. The statement is balanced at £39,244,934, an increase of £2,023,343 since the close of the previous week. Sterling exchange reserve continues to recover, and, at £B,346,112, is £1,480,691 higher In value than on the previous Monday.
The note issue continues to fall, the decline being £254,019. State deposits show the marked rise of £l,886,710 to £4,951,631, while trading bank deposits have risen by £332,153. The ratio has risen from 27.63 per cent to 30.135.
Advances to the State are £266,813 higher, of which “other purposes” accounts’for £250,000, bringing that item to £20,860,000.
