“Reserve Occupations, Obscure Mystery”
I Special to “Northern Advocate”'! AUCKLAND, This Day.
“Reserved occupations are an obscure mystery,” remarked the DeputyMayor (Mr J. A. C. Allum) during a discussion on recruiting at the city council’s special meeting yesterday. “They apparently provide for total exemption, but not for partial exemption for a period of time until a man can be replaced.” Mr Allum’s remark was taken up by Mr A. Howey-Walker, who said that a concern of which he was a director had received a letter from the Minister concerned, asking it to supply a list of key men, and to do what was possible to train others to replace them. “Then you have better information than I,” rejoined Mr Allum.
