Stocktaking.—A census of stocks of flour, wheat and oats in the Dominion was taken at November 30. The following quantities were returned: Flour, 13,481 tons; wheat, 2,086,405 bushels (including 1.893.298 bushels ol milling wheat); oats, in grain, 717,289 bushels.
BeiUh. A six-year-old boy, Douglas William Hewlett Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Wright, who was injured in an accident on the Grey-mouth-Hokitika Road on Monday evening, has died in the Grey Hospital. The boy ran out of a side road leading to his home, colliding with a motor truck and suffering severe head injuries.
Expenses.—Regulations gazetted last night, providing for increased expenses for witnesses appearing for the Crown in criminal cases, have been extended to include witnesses at coroners’ inquests. Hurdles,—S. G. Stenner, New South Wales and Australian hurdles champion, will make a three weeks’ tour of New Zealand next month. He first appears at Wellington on January 6.
Inquest,—An inquest was held yesterday at Hamilton into the death of David Lindsay McCorquindale, aged 37, a farmer, of Whatawhata, whose body was found in the \yaipa River at Whatawhata. Evidence was given that deceased, who was manned, had been missing since December 4. A verdict that deceased was found drowned was returned.
