Toolmakers Getting Excessive Profits?

The official report of evidence given before the Select Committee on Estimates, reveals that the Under-Secre-tary to the Treasury (Sir Alan Barlow) told the committee last March that the Treasury had a suspicion that 'machine toolmakers engaged in the national defence programme were making excessive profits. This was met by a blank refusal from those suspected to submit their books to costing. The money involved was pretty considerable and the Government would have to consider taking legislative powers.
