Attractive Trials At Ellerslie This Morning

Several very attractive trials were recorded at Ellerslie this morning by candidates for the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting.

Those to impress most were Queen City, Te Kawiti and Blonde Princess over half a mile; Disdain over five furlongs; Mintlaw and Sedenata over six furlongs; and Baran and Moorsotis over a mile.

The riiaiden colt Pern put up aru excellent gallop over a mile and a half, finishing up his work in resolute style. Dictate also gained friends by the manner in which he was running on at the end of a mile and a quarter. The course was in first-rate order.

Paper Slipper and Great Swoop were first out, and came home from the six-furlong post in 1.19. The first three furlongs took 39secs, and Paper Slipper was doing the better at the end. Silver Quex Impresses. Trevace was going well within himself while traversing seven furlongs in 1.37, his first two furlongs taking 42 2-ssecs. Kelly and ero King reeled off half a mile in 52secs. They both had a bit in reserve at the finish. After running their first two furlongs in 25 4-ssecs. British Talent and Silver Quex continued on to run five furlongs in 1.7 4-5. There was little between them, but Silver Quex impressed most. Baran and Moorsotis were companions over a mile, running the distance in 1.45 2-5. The first four furlongs took Slsecs, and Baran was in front at the end. Aero Queen ran half a mile in 54 4-ssecs, and Bide-a-Wee was holding Royal Son after traversing six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Pern’s Good Effort. Pern was fsent a mile and a half which he completed in 2.44 3-5. He ran the last mile and a quarter in 2.18 and the final round in 2.7 2-5. His last six furlongs took 1.20 4-5, and he was doing his work well at the finish, after covering his last half-mile in 53 l-ssecs. Had this trial been done by one of the more prominent candidates it would have greatly increased his circle of admirers.

After running their first three furlong's in 40 l-ssecs, Palmint finished clear of Hot Shot at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.211-5. Indian Sun,was going very freely while traversing the last half-mile of his work in 52 l-ssecs. This hack should show up in his engagements at the meeting. Disdain in Great Style.

Bronze Emerald and Lady Acushla were timed to run five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Lady Acushla showed to the best advantage. Beeswing was not hurried throughout six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. The Railway Handicap candidate, Disdain, worked in great style over the last half-mile in 49 2-ssecs. She finished full of running. Royal Appellant shaded Gay Broney at the end of seven furlongs, covered in 53 2-ssecs. Mintlaw and Serenata came home from the six-furlong post in 1.18 3-5, the final three furlongs taking 29 2-ssecs. It was a useful trial. Dictate Finishes Well

Clarion Call did strong work, but was not doing much better than 15secs to the furlong; and Paint strode over six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. The two-year-olds, Cillas, Oragon, and Rich Blood, were in that order after completing half a mile in 52 4-5 secs, the last three taking 39 2-ssecs. Cillas was running on nicely over the last furlong. Millament finished up a useful task by running the final half-mile of her work in 50 l-ssecs.

Dictate and Sly Fox ran a mile and a-quarter in 2.17 2-5, the final round taking 2.7 2-5. The last seven furlongs took 1,35 2-5, and the final halfmile 56secs.

Dictate finished well and was holding Sly Fox, although the latter covered a bit of extra ground. Catalogue Works in Fine Style

Without doing their best at any part of it, Catalogue apd Beaupartir were timed to run a mile in 1.47. The last six furlongs took 1.19 3-5, and the final half-mile 53 3-ssecs. They finished together and had something in reserve. Catalogue, in particular, did his work in lino style. Melvanui was clear of Spinning Wheel and Tea Gong, with Every Port several lengths away at the finish of a mile in 1.48. Melvanui worked much better than he has done for some time, but Every Port lost ground at the start, and never was able to make it up.

Phaleron was doing better than Royal Message over four furlongs, done in 1.41-5, the last three taking 39secs.

Night Pilot was well clear of Red Warden at the end of four furlongs, in 52 2-ssecs.

Blonde Princess in Good Sprint

Over a similar distance, Blonde Princess recorded 49 4-ssecs, the last three taking 36 3-ssecs. This was one of the best sprints of the morning. Royal Huntress ran the last six furlongs of her work in 1.231-5, being assisted over the last five by Auburn Lad, the latter distance taking 1.7 3-5. The best half-mile of the morning was that of Queen City and Te Kawiti, who finished in front of Jack Tar in 49 3-ssecs. Te Kawiti worked exceptionally well though Queen City, who was on the outside, impressed more.

Pasture cantered round to the threefurlong post and ran home in 39 3-5 secs.

First out after breakfast, Silver Stick ran his first furlong in 12 2-ssecs, and finished up four in 50 l-ssecs. Mon Acre was too good for Whenua at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5, the first three taking 381-5 SOCS. Cintrace’s Useful Effort. Golden Bonnet, Happicoat and Prudence finished as named over five furlongs in 1.5. They ran the first two in 24 3-ssecs, and Golden Bonnet was several lengths clear at the post, but Happicoat had her measure when they finished. Stratford just shaded Nightbeam over five furlongs, which they ran in 1.7. After running his first half-mile in 52 2-ssecs, Cintrace covered a mile in 1.48, a useful effort for a hurdler. Odtaa ran his first two furlongs in 26secs, and finished well at the end of five in 1.5 3-5.
