Rural Housing Scheme Details
Some Interesting facts relative to the Rural Housing Act were given by the clerk (Mr E. G. Aickin) when replying to a question from Cr. H. S. McCarroll at Wednesday’s meeting of the Otamatea County Council. It was necessary, said Mr Aickin, for each applicant to apply to the council in the first instance.
Loans could be given for new houses or out-buildings or for additions to existing houses. The council was given the money at 3 per cent, and lent it to approved applicants at 3per cent for a term of from 15 to 25 years.
The scheme applied only to farmers and- not to generel workers. ' “I presume the council will support the principle of the Act, said Cr. T. H C. Snelling. “I think it is a first-class scheme.”
“Our job it to help farmers' as much as possible,” said the chairman (Mr R, Coates). ,
