School Breaking-Up Function At Whangarei Heads

A most enjoyable children's fancy dress and Christmas tree was held in the Taurikura hall on Friday evening. The fancy dresses were of a very high standard and the awards were made by popular vote. During the evening numerous prizes for progress during 1939 were distributed amongst the scholars.. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree was presided over by Santa Claus, who distributed a Christmas gift to all children present. He also handed to Mr and Mrs D. S. Kerr a lovely cushion as a mark of appreciation from the children of the Whangarei Heads School. Prize-winners were:

Senior girls: Joyce Coe (old fashioned lady); senior boys: Avon Ryan (Lady Godiva); junior boys: Selwyn Coo (Sitting Bull); junior girls: Josie Bird (Hawaiian gii’l); tiny tots, boys: David Kerr (knave of hearts); tiny tots, girls: Greta Robinson (old fashioned lady); best original dress, boys: Avon. Ryan (Lady Godiva): girls: Marie Ryan (The Stork).
