Returned Men Urge Compulsory Service
PAEROA, This Day.
At a full committee meeting of the Paeroa and Hauraki Plains Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the following resolutions were carried unanimously: “That in view of the apparent reluctance of young men in this country to Join up with the New Zealand Territorial units and with the Special Force, and in view of the urgent need to build and maintain these forces, this branch suggests that headquarters of the association make a further appeal to the Government immediately to reinstate compulsory militarytraining and also to advocate a more equitable basis of enlisting men for overseas service.
“That for the purpose of building up the Territorial Forces, headquarters be urged to advocate the enlistment of ex-servicemen of suitable rank and . training to fill, where necessary. vacancies created through the war.’’
