W omen ’s Institutes
Whareora The monthly meeting of the Whareora Women’s Institute was held in the hall. Mrs McLennan, vice-president, presided. Mrs Raynel, the president, recently resigned, and on her departure to live in Kaiwaka was presented with a copy of “Pioneer Tales.” Much discussion took place over helping patriotic work, especially in regard to provision of Christmas parcels for men in camp. An educational competition and an amusing one were enjoyed by the members. Mrs Roy Smith won the sewing competition with a handmade handkerchief. Paponga The'November meeting was held in the Settlers’ Hall. The thought for the month was given by Mrs R. King: “He hath a heart as sound as a bell; his tongue is the clapper, for what his heart thinks his tongue speaks.” The roll-call was “Exchanging recipes.” The points competition, “An embroidered tray cloth,” resulted: Mrs W. t>yer 1, Mrs J. Dyer 2, Mrs Grounds 3. The social competition, supplied by Mrs R. King, was won by Mrs J. Dyer. ,
