French Minister On Counter To Magnetic Mines

(Received 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, November 30. The Minister of the Navy (M. Campinchi) announced that the French Navy had intercepted 223,297 tons of merchandise bound for Germany during the first 68 days of the war. This included 85,742 tons of foods, 101,653 tons of raw materials, and 35,000 tons of liquid combustibles.

Me added that Germany possessed 50 to 60 submarines when the war began and had already

lest 30. He did not believe that the submarine was* a senous menace to the Allied commerce. Magnetic mines were less to be feared than was believed generally. It is now believed possible to drag them from the seas, which is being done by electrical magnetic equipment, and is showing excellent results. “Thus Germany’s war against the Allies on the sea is bound to fail in the long run,” he concluded.

The leader of the semi-political German American Bund, Fritz Kuhn, has been found guilty of the theft of sums of money totalling 1217 dollars. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years, although it is expected the terms will be considerably less.
