Russo-German Offensive In Balkans Soon?
(Received 9 a .in.) NEW YORK, November 29. TURKISH LEADERS. INCLUDING PRESIDENT INONU AND THE TURKISH ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF BELIEVE THAT WITHIN A PEW WEEKS RUSSIAN AND GERMAN FORCES MAY LAUNCH A BIG OFFENSIVE IN THE BALKANS AND NEAR EAST, SAYS M. JULEN SAUERWEIN, NOTED FRENCH JOURNALIST, IN A DESPATCH FROM ANGORA. Russia’s task, he says, would be to gain control of Central Asia and seek a foothold on the threshold of India. At the same time. Germany would seek an outlet in the 'Mediterranean and access to the oils, minerals and foodstuffs, which arc abundant in Anatolia and Mesopotamia. However, the Turks, aided by the British and French military staffs, are preparing | 0 meet such a threat. It is pointed out that the combined British, French and Turkish forces will be at such a strength in the Eastern Mediterranean in the spring that it seems that Germany would embark on the venture only as a last, desperate resort.
