Professions And Auctioneers Celebrate
There was the usual convivial evening at the conclusion of the Banks and Professions v. Auctioneers and La yd Agents football match on Saturday. when a dinner was held at the Settlers’ Hotel.
Sixty-two people were present under the chairmanship of Dr. Buckley. Making mention of the international situation, Dr. Buckley said, in his opening remarks, that although it was expected many young men would be going overseas, he trusted they would be back by next year and that the function would be continued.
Accompanied by Mr A. Marsden Woods, musical items were supplied by Messrs Booth, Carruth and A. Morgan.
Community singing was a popular form of entertainment. It was led by Mr Blanshard.
The toast list included: the winning team, Mr W. Foote, reply Mr F. Collins; the losing team, Mr F. Collins; Banks and Professions, Mr C. J. Dent, reply Mr Walton; Auctioneers and Land Agents, Mr H. C. Rishworth, reply Mr W. A. Christiansen; functions such as these, Mr L. A. Johnson, reply Mr W. Wakelin; the press, Dr. Good, reply, Mr Horrell; the artists, Dr. Buckley, reply, Messrs Carruth, Morgan, Booth and Marsden Woods; the referee. Mr Whitmore, reply, Mr R. Morrison.
