Alpin's 70 Record for Mt. Denby
Shooting six “birdies” and exceeding par on three holes only, A. Api in put up a course record at the Mt. Denby Golf Links on Saturday, with a net 70. The previous record of 71 was established by W. J. Glanville, ex-North Auckland champion, has stood for some years.
Aplin, who has been golfing for some eight seasons, was in magnificent form yesterday. His card read. —Out: 4. 4,5, 3,3, 4, 5. 4. 3. (35). In; 3. 3,4, 3,4, 4,5, 5, 4 (35). Last Hole the Worst At the eighteenth, the ladies’ tee was in use, the other being under repairs. Aplin had only to do a bogej l - three to complete in 69, but, for the first and only time during the afternoon, pulled his tee shot, taking a four. Steadiness characterised his game throughout and he sank a number of long putts.
Won Flag Match
Aplin won the flag match played by the Whangarei Club, his card reading: 70-4-66.
Other good cards were: A. 1 Rolfe Smith, 87-21-66; A. R. Ryder, 89-21-68, R. Gray, 80-9-71;, W. J. Glanville, 74-2-72. H. A. Good and T. B. Marshall won the Mt. Denby four-ball when in the final they beat D. J. Thomson and P. Jones.
The club championships have now reached the final stage. Semi-final results were:
Senior: H. F. Buckley beat H. Wilson, 3 and 1; W. J. Glanville beat D. J. Thomson by default. Buckley and Glairyille meet in the final.
Intermediate: Macklow beat Adams at the nineteenth; T. B. Marshall beat W. A. Christiansen, 4 and 3; Macklow and Marshall are the finalists. Junior: Ross Nelson beat H. A. Good at the twentieth; Hinder beat Kean Clarke, 1 up. Nelson and Hinder will meet in the final. Other golf scores on page 2.
