Presentations To New Whangarei Magistrate
Appreciation of the work carried out by Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., during his three and a-half years’ term of office in Greymouth, was expressed by members of the legal profession prior to his departure to take up duty in Whangarei in succession to Mr G. N. Morris, S.M.
After paying tribute to Mr Ferner, the senior member of the Bar, Mr J. W. Hannan, said the magistrate had not enjoyed the best of health while on the West Coast, and members of the Bar had admired the way he had carried on. However, he was leaving them in excellent health, and members hoped the warmer climate of the North would be beneficial.
Members of the Greymouth Police Force also farewelled Mr Ferner, Inspector D. McLean presenting him with an ebony, gold-mounted walkingsticK, and a crystal vase for Mrs Ferner.
A presentation was also made by members of the West Coast (5.1.) Justices of the Peace Association, who said Mr Ferner, in addition to his magisterial duties, had been largely responsible in bringing the association to its present flourishing condi-
