Well Stocked With Essential Food Supplies

WELLINGTON, This Day. * SINCE THE CRISIS IN SEPTEMBER, 1938, STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE FOR- THE CONTROL AND CONSERVATION OF ALL FOODSTUFFS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY SUCH AS THE COUNTRY IS EXPERIENCING AT PRESENT. The foodstuffs emergency regulations have now been gazetted, and provide the necessary machinery for the control and distribution of all foodstuffs as'•a.nd : when required.
Emergency Regulations.
The necessary regulations and control of factory production where the public is concerned are also provided for in the factory emergency regulations, . issued by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. “New Zealand is in as strong a position as any country of the -Empire with stocks of essential foodstuffs, but care will be necessary in avoiding waste, where possible, of imported foodstuffs,”. said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Supply, yesterday.
He said there was not the slightest necessity for apprehension over the adequacy of available stocks in the Dominion of the principal foodstuffs. Imported Foods.
There were, however, certain imported foodstuffs which might require to be conserved, although the majority of these lines were by no means of an essential character. Mr Sullivan said he was anxious to enlist the co-opera-tion of the public in conserving supplies of imported foodstuffs by reducing their pur- . chases to a minimum.
The Food Controller had been entrusted with the responsibility of seeing that available supplies were equitably and carefully distributed, ensuring that as even distribution as possible would be made should the position warrant further action being taken to conserve existing stocks.
