Motorists Fined For Traffic Law Breaches

Breaches of the traffic regulations were responsible for several motorists being called to answer charges in the Whangarei Magistrate's Court this morning. For failing to have warrants of fitness Frank Wood, farmer, of Kaeo and Herbert Allan Crawford, were fined £1 with 10/- costs.

Exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles per hour at Kamo cost William Whiteman. farmer, of Kamo. £3 and 10/costs, the Transport Department Traffic inspector stating that his speed had been between 42 and 43 miles per hour.

The explanation that ho had been driving to see a child who was seriously ill in hospital was given by Roy Hoey, labourer, of Kauri, who appeared to answer a charge of exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles per hour at Kamo.

Fie was also charged with having no certificate of fitness and no driver's license.

The Transport Department traffic inspector said defendant had his driving license and warrant of fitness ready for posting to him but he had forgotten to send them.

For exceeding the speed iirnit defendant was fined £2 10 - with 107costs, for having no warrant of fitness he was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs, and for having no driver’s license he was convicted and discharged.

John Cuthbert Gillingham, farm hand, of Maungakaramea, was fined £1 with 107- costs, for driving a motor-cycle without a driver’s license, £1 with 107- costs for having no warrant of fitness, and 107- with 107- costs for not having the current year's license plates. Reti Reti, labourer, of Whangaruru South, was fined £1 with 107- costs for not having a driver’s license, and 107- with 107- costs for not having current number plates.
