Cavalcade Of History At Waimate Pioneer Ball

After weeks of preparation, details have been completed for the Centennial Pioneer Ball, which is, being arranged for August 11 at Waimate and Okaihau conjointly. The costuming of characters for the cavalcade of history has been finalised, and a colourful spectacle will be presented. Statesmen, missionaries, Maori leaders, soldiers, sailors, pioneers and the sterling wives of each class from Kupe to present-day characters will be represented. The feature of the evening will be the presentation of the special party to “Royalty,” and the performance of several of the stately period dances long since forgotten by the present generation.

Patrons are urged to enter into the pioneer spirit of the function, and to attend in pioneer dress. This is of particular interest because from the assembly at Waimate and Okaihau on this occasion will be selected 100 characters to assist with the Waitangi celebrations in February. By special request, members of the Territorial Forces attending the ball will be parading in full dress. In the same spirit the invitation is now being mads for all 1914-1918 men attending lo wear all service medals and decorations, representative of the honourable part they have played in the cavalcade of New Zealand history. An attractive musical programme has been arranged by Messrs. H. K. Hatrick, Oliver and Middleweek, and so far as the Bay of Islands Centennial campaign is concerned, the function will be a fitting commencement of activities.
