Finlayson - Sterling

j A very pretty wedding was solemnised in St. Mark’s Church, Faparoa, on Wednesday, July 12, when Helen ; Emily, daughter of Mrs Ada and the

late Mr David Sterling, of Ararua

was married to Donnie, son of Mrs and the late Mr 'Norman Finlayson. of Maungaturoto. The Rev. J. D. McFarlane. of Waipu, was the officiating minister, and the church was tastefully decorated by -he friends of the bride. Mrs T. Wright presided at the organ.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, wore a graceful frock of ivory slipper satin, cut on classical lines, with a high neckline, relieved by a sprig of orange blossom and full leg-of-mutton sleeves, which ended in a point over each hand. A feature of the close-fitting bodice, which buttoned to below the waistline, was a strip of beading, coming from across the sleeves and joining it extended down the entire front of the frock. The full skirt ended in a long oval train. She carried a sheaf of lilies. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Bea Sterling, and her niece. Miss Edna Parker, dressed respectively in daffodil and lilac chiffon over taffeta, with swathed bodices and very full skirts. On their heads they wore shoulder length veils over top knots of flowers and they carried mulls in the same shade as their frocks.

The bride’s mother wore a navy frock of crepe satin, with a navy peach bloom hat and black caracul coat, and carried a posy of autumn tinted flowers. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black two-piece ensemble with a black hat, and also carried a posy of autumn tinted flowers.

Mr Stewart Finlayson was best man, and Mr Angus Finlayson, groomsman. Both were brothers of the bridegroom.

Following the ceremony a largely attended reception was held in the Garrison Hall. Mr T. B. R. Julian acted as M.C., and music for the dancing was provided by Ray Goodison s orchestra (Whangarei).

Mr and Mrs Finlayson’s future home will be at Maungaturoto.
