Allen - Andrewes

A very pretty wedding was witnessed at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Kohukohu, when Marie Burclle, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs George Andrewes, of Kohukohu, was married to John Wilson, second son of Mr and Mrs E, R. Allen, of Remuera, Auckland.

The church was very prettily decorated with flowers and palms, and a handsome floral bell of lilies, camellias and daffodils was suspended over the chancel entrance. Rev. John Cable, vicar of North Hokianga, officiated. Mrs Ramsey Phillips presided at the organ.

The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a dainty gown of ivory sprigged silk net over stiffened satin. The bodice, with a heart-shaped neckline and short' puffed sleeves, was slightly ruched and finished at the back with'small satin buttons. The full skirt fell into a slight train and the flowing tulle veil was caught at the head with a spray of orange blossoms and lily of the valley.

There -were four maids in attendance, Misses Nance Andrewes (sister of the bride) and Jocelyn Millar, in blue tinsel striped taffeta, and Misses Inga and Neville Andrewes (cousins of the 'bride), in cyclamen tinsel striped taffeta. They wore small silver sequin c.aps and carried bouquets of cyclamen and anemones.

Attending the bridegroom were Mr Gwyn Zinzon, of Palmerston North, as best man, and Messrs Lance and Des Andrewes as groomsmen. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Kohukohu Town Hall, when guests from all parts of Hokianga and further afield, were received by the bride’s mother. Mrs Andrewes wore a frock of black satin with a silver fox cape and small toque. She carried a bouquet of orchids. Mrs Allen, the groom’s mother, wore a frock of purple satin embossed with silver lame and a purple cape and toque to tone and carried a spray of orchids.

Mr A. U. Day was M.C. for the dance which followed.

The couple left by car for the south, where the honeymoon will be spent, the bride choosing a teal blue frock worn under a musquash fur coat, with a teal blue and brown felt hat. Mr and Mrs Allen will reside in Palmerston North.
