Otamatea Executive Meeting

Mr J. J. Sutherland, president of the Otamatea Rugby Union, presided over the fortnightly executive meeting, held at Maungaturoto on Tuesday evening. The following motion, of which notice had been given, was carried unanimously: “That, after hearing the true position and facts outlined by the Otamatea resident delegate on the North Auckland Rugby Union at the last executive meeting, the resolution support the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union in their request for one of the North Auckland representative matches to bo played at Dargaville be rescinded, and the Otamatea delegate be given full power to act as he thinks fit.”

It was decided to send the Otamatea Primary Schools’ representative team to Kaitaia in August, to participate in the North Auckland primary schools’ tournament.

The chairman made a special appeal to the public of Otamatea for

financial assistance towards this tour, which is of a week's duration, as the expenses involved would be considerable. It was decided to canvass the various football districts and parents for funds.

Arrangements were finalised for the Otamatea senior representatives to travel to Kaitaia or Hokianga on August 12, to play for the Harding Shield, and also for the junior representatives to travel and play for the Brake Shield on the same date. Managers appointed for the senior team were Messrs. J. J. Sutherland and H. Smith, and for the juniors Messrs. C. Jenkins and R. Bull. An offer for the Otamatea thirdgrade representatives to visit Rodney on August 26 was declined, owing to the lateness of the proposed date, and it was decided to send the team to Rodney early in the next season. Mr T. B. R. Julian was appointed manager of the Otamatea schoolboys’ team for the trip to Kaitaia.
