Efficiency Tests Disapproved. Strong views were aired last night at the largest meeting of public servants ever held in New Plymouth when disapproval was expressed of the efficiency test and promotion examinations recently introduced by the Public Service Commissioner.

Doubly Unfortunate. A second fracture of a leg already in plaster as a result of a break suffered two months ago was received by Mrs K. A. Elliot, of Stratford, in a motor accident at Whenuakura yesterday. A head-on collision occurred on a bend between a car driven by Mr E. S. Warhaft, of Silverdale, and a car driven by Mr Elliot.

Matai’s Northern Cruise. After receiving an overhaul at Wellington, the Government lighthouse steamer Matai left yesterday for northern lighthouses.
