King Decorates Hammersmith Bridge Hero

His Majesty the King, at an investiture at St. James’s, pinned ab 0.8. E. Medal on Mr Childs, the Hammersmith bridge hero, and congratulated him on his plucky perception. Early on the morning of March 29 a time-bomb exploded on Hammersmith Bridge, blowing away part of the superstructure. A man was walking on the footpath over the bridge, when he saw a box from which came a crackling sound. The man was Mr Child, and he threw the box into the river, A second explosion occurred on the other footpath as he waste:' ing the bridge.
