Christ Church Activities Reviewed
Provided officers competent and able to give the time are forthcoming. Christ Church, Whangarei, may shortly have attached a troop of Girl Guides.
Commending a proposal in this direction at the annual meeting of parishioners last night, Archdeacon H. T. Steele expressed preference for the creation of such troops under the supervision of the church. A number of the younger girls were very interested in the formation of a Girl Guides troop, while the Ist Whangarei Troop of Boy Scouts was now under the aegis of Christ Church. Beyond praise was the devoted service given by Scoutmaster L. E. Phil* pott, who was being assisted by Messrs. F. Milne and J. Symons in the development of a troop of which the parish could be proud.
Work of Mothers’ Union
Touching upon other church activities, Archdeacon Steele referred especially to the Mothers’ Union, which among women’s organisations, should be first considered by churchwomen. This worldwide movement aimed to preserve the sanctity of home life, and there' could be no more important objective. Attendances at the Wliangarei branch meeting during the past year had been somewhat disappointing, and he urged the younger mothers to become members. Entertainment For Young People. ‘•The fact that the church can, and does, provide well-conducted entertainment for the young people is something for which we can be thankful,” said the Archdeacon, speaking of the regular socials held in the Parochial Hall. General opinion was that Christ Church was doing a useful public service in this direction.
