Surprise Expressed In Auckland
[Per Press Association. Copyright. ] AUCKLAND. This Day.
Surprise was expressed in Auckland to-day at the Wellington report that members of' the party of Australian building tradesmen” had complained that they had been brought to New Zealand under false representation. Assurances were given locally to-day that all members of the party who arrived in Auckland from Sydney have been placed in employment. Most of the members went to allotted jobs the day after they arrived, and, so far as the union and other officials are aware, everything is going smoothly.
Keen Competition for Points Prize. There was exceptionally close competition between two breeders for the Challenge Cup for most points in the Jersey section at the Whangarei Stock Show. Dr. G. Walker annexed the cup. which he himself presented in 1930, beating Mr C. Stevens, of Maungatapere, by 67 to 66.
