Blackberries Mean Money. The blackberry-buying at present being carried out in the Rotorua district by a jam-making firm furnishes a remarkable indication of the huge quantities of these berries to be obtained in the district. Consignments have been made by rail to Auckland twice weekly since the picking of fruit commenced. On the first day of I picking, 600 lbs. were bought, but on Monday the consignment sent forward was just 60 lbs. short of 4£ tons.- The firm has been purchasing blackberries at 2Jd a lb. from the pickers. $ * * ♦ Plant Research Station,, Built at a cost of £16,000, the new plant research station at Mount Albert, Auckland', will be opened by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, on the morning of Mai'ch 25. The building should be completed nexf week, when it will be handed over to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research by the Public Works Department. It represents the greatest advance yet made in the interests of plant research in the- Dominion. The building, of two storeys, contains 35 rooms, chiefly laboratories, and has accommodation for a staff of 27. It is fully air-conditioned with provision for cooling in the sumher 'and heating in the winter.
