Kaitaia’s Week of Fun-Carnival Starts Tomorrow

/CARNIVAL WEEK BEGINS AT KA ITAIA TOMORROW. IT IS THE FIRST MAJOR STEP TAKEN BY THE RECENTLY FORMED KAITAIA BUSINESSMEN’S ASSOCIATION TO ADVANCE THE PROSPERITY OF THE TOWN AND DISTRICT.

Although the principal objective of the week is to stimulate interest in the town and encourage country clients to shop at Kaitaia’s well stocked stores, the Carnival will pro vide fun and sport for all sections of the community.

Briefly the programme is.— Friday, March 17: Window dressing competition. Saturday, March 18: Monster swimming carnival. Monday. March 20: Concert and community sing. Tuesday. March 21; “Mystery man” on parade. Wednesday, March 22: Baby show. Thursday, March 23; Wheelbarrow race and Carnival dance. Friday. March 24: National Tobacco race meeting. Saturday. March 25: Fancy dress parade. Decorated Windows. A meeting of the executive last night finalised plans for a week of entertainment and novelty the like of which has never before been attempted in the Far North. There jhas been an exceptionally good response for the window dressing competition, practically every premises in the town being bedecked to look its smartest and most attracticc. Judges tomorrow will have no easy task. Attractive Brochure. Setting out fully the attractions of the week together with much interesting information concerning Kaitaia and district, a twelve page brochure of full newspaper size has been compiled by the Kaitaia Businessmen’s Association. Three thousand five hundred copies arc being circulated throughout the four northern-most counties, from Kerikeri. Okaihau and Rawene northwards. Kaitaia’s Future. “The association feels that there is definitely a very prosperous future for the Far North, with its wonderful climate and famous scenic attractions and that the town of Kaitaia, as the natural hub of this district must rapidly expand,” writes Mr A. G. Horsxey, the president, in a foreword. “While progress must be solid rather Ilian rapid it is considered that with a fair measure of support from the people who must of necessity, depend I

on Kaitaia for their main requirements, this town, in the space of a very few. years, will develop into a place of which we all will be proud.”

Featured on the front page of ‘Torward Kaitaia the Carnival Review,” is an article dealing with the early days, from the arrival of Rev. Joseph Matthews in 1832 to recent times. It is contributed' by Mr H. S. Matthews, of Kaitaia, the historian of the missionary families.

Other .articles of particular appeal deal with the coming of electricity, the romance of the toheroa (found nowhere more abundantly than the Ninety Mile Beach only 11 miles away) and a tribute to the work of the late Colonel Allen Bell, the influence of whose work and life for the welfare and development of the North will always remain.
