White Ant Menace
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day. White ants sent to the Cawthron Institute from Auckland have been dentified by Dr. D. Miller as the Australian mound-building species, known as coptotermes lacteus. ‘T have no wish to create alarm.” said Dr. Miller; “nevertheless, a survey of the position in Auckland has shown a much mere serious state of affairs than when the initial observations were made by Mr A. F. Clark, of the State Advances Corporation, last year. “Such a thorough establishment, as already reached in Auckland by these alien white ants, create a grave situation, more so since the wooden buildings are at present absolutely unprotected against this particular typo of speedy invader.”
