“On the whole, I have never heard better hymn playing,” said the judge, Captain H. Shugg, in announcing the results at the conclusion of the hymn tests at the New Zealand Brass Bands Championship, which opened in brilliant sunny weather at the showgrounds yesterday. The placings were: —Ashburton Silver Band, 74 points, 1; Christchurch Municipal Band, 46, 2; Dannevirke Municipal, Rochdale and Port Nicholson Silver Bands, 45 pts., equal 3.
