Bay Game Fish In Fighting Mood

After blowing from the west con-
tinuously since the last equinox, the wind veered round to easterly during the week, resulting in decidedly warmer sea temperatures.
The change has brought in the big game fish, and the famous deep sea fishing grounds off Cape Brett are literally teeming with “swordies,” and catches, which this year have been f£w, are once again assuming oldtime regularity. The Fish Has Won,
The fish are reported to be in great fighting mood, and each day brings in stones of the ones that got away. In several cases the fighting fish have carried away bait, hook and line. Fishermen in nearby boats w'ere thrilled at the spectaculaf fighting display of a striped marlin hooked by Mr J. Holmes from the launch Lorna Doone. After a hard tussle the fish threw itself over the line, breaking it and thus escaping. Sport at Otehei Lodge. The number of game fish caught and officially weighed at .Otehei Bay Fishing Lodge during the week totals nine, bringing the season’s total up to 20 game fish. The week’s catches »includfe one black marlin, five striped marlin and three mako sharks.
Mr L, Hubble, of California, fishing from the Valhalla, has to his credit two striped marlin, 2571bs and 2331bs respectively, and Mr Holmes, of Otehei Bay, fishing from the Lorna Doone, brought in two mako sharks on Saturday, the weights being 2361bs and 2861b5.
Mr and Mrs N. T. Morrow, of Sydney, each caught a striped marlin from the Alma G., Mrs Morrow’s 279pounder beating her husband’s catch by seven pounds. > Londoner Hires Boat for 60 Days.
Mr H. C. Parr, of London, who has bookeql the Alma G. II for sixty days’ fishing, caught his first game fish of the season, a 2561 b black marlin, on Monday last, and on Tuesday Mr T. Webster, of New Plymouth, landed a striped marlin of 2001bs from the launch Phyllis. >' Mr W. R. Macpherson, of Portsmouth, fishing from his private launch Movarie, had the misfortune to lose three striped marlin on Friday, his consolation being a mako weighing just over lOOlbs. Kohn Pins.
