Straphanging Stops State Mine
[Per Press Association. Copyright . 3 GREYMOUTH, Monday.
The James State mine is idle to-day, owing to a dispute concerning the ’bus which conveys Greymouth men to the mine. Two of the men did not obtain seats in the ’bus this morning and refused to stand. The ’busman went without them. The union requested that the two men should be paid wages for the day, but this was refused by the management. All the men then decided not to work, as a protest. An interesting visitor arrived in Whangarei this afternoon, in the person of Mr C. J. Patchett, a missionary from China. He is to give an illustrated lecture in the Baptist Church.
