Youth And Girl Carried Out To Sea
t Special to “Northern Advocate ”] THAMES, This Day. Early yesterday afternoon, two young people, Basil Rabe, aged 17, and Hazel Fisher, aged 16, put off in a flat-bottomed boat from the Waiomio shore. They were carried out to sea, and have not been heard of since. The police have twice searched the locality, the first time fn a launch, and then in a fishing vessel, but without success. There was a fairly heavy sea running all the afternoon, and visibility at times was restricted to 100 yards. A woman eye-wftness stated that she saw the boat caught by the outgoing tide and carried rapidly out to sea. Rabe began to wave frantically for help, and the woman hurried to the nearest telephone and advised the Thames police, who were about six miles distant by road. Up to a late hour last night nothing further had been reported.
