Several Roads Are Impassable Today
Although the Far North has received an ample soaking, the rainfall has not been so heavy north of Whangarei, and little flooding has occurred.
Mr H. K. Ford, Mid-Northern Patrol for the Automobile Association, stated this morning that flooding at Fenton Fraser’s Flat, and further up the' Valley had blocked the Mangakahi'a route.
Taylor’s Flat, on the main Dargaville road, was negotiated by the service car this morning, but the road would probably be out of the question : for traffic this afternoon. The detour route to Dargaville, via Houto, was in a very rough condition, Waipu Gorge Recommended. Owing to slips on the Brynderwyn Deviation, Mr Ford advises southbound traffic to make the longer journey via Waipu Gorge and M'aungaturoto. 1 , This morning the Public Works Department, posted flagmen at either end of the Brynderwyn Deviation to acquaint traffic as to the route was open.
With the raising of the section at Hukerenui, the Main North Highway was not so susceptible to flooding as previously. ‘Service cars from Russell and Pipiwai reached Whangarei without trouble today.
